Under the sun, I stood. Gazing at the shadowy shade. Dancing under the half-bent tree. An old woman came to a stop beside me.
" Child , Why do you not go sit in the shade?"
She had followed my gaze. "I have no need for shade." I looked at her
" Ah! Your eyes tell a different story." she smiled.
I did sit under it once, and when it was time to move forward. I wanted to carry it with me. To give me shade. To give me comfort.
" But the tree had roots and you couldn't lift it, right?"
Her question was soft.
" Yes, But I was brave and walked out in to the sun, without my tree, without my shade"
" Yes, it truly is a very hard thing to do, my child." A memory glittered in her eyes.
"I no longer crave the shade. I can stand the fire of the sun".
I stood straight.
"Yes," she smiled, " you can, for you are brave. But do you have the strength to go back?"
I looked at her ..what did she mean?
"Courage" she smiled " is not he absence of fear
but deciding to do something , inspite, of the fear."
I couldn't do anything else but stare at her.
"It is not enough to simply walk in to the sun
You should also find the strength to stay in the shade
Inspite of the fact that you will have to move on soon"
Then it struck me
Why trees had roots
They are to stay
And men were to walk.
" Yes, The shade is in you my child..
you don't have to carry a tree to find it"
And then she was gone
I looked at the shady tree'..
walked towards it and sat down
I'd stay a while ,
just for a little while,..and then I'd walk again.
